Oddly, the terms state this isn’t valid for award flights, but I am seeing a 15% on award pricing. Go figure.

It’s worth noting that JetBlue has copied the major network carriers’ one-way pricing penalty.

For example:

  • A one-way flight from LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale on 1/25 or from Fort Lauderdale to LaGuardia on 1/28 is normally $173.40 (11.2K points) in basic, $218.40 (15.8K points) in economy, $383.40 (28.6K points) in BlueFirst basic, or $429.40 (30.8K points) in BlueFirst.
  • With the code above, a one-way flight from LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale on 1/25 or from Fort Lauderdale to LaGuardia on 1/28 is $149.70 (9.5K points) in basic, $187.95 (13.4K points) in economy, $383.40 (28.6K points) in BlueFirst basic, or $429.40 (30.8K points) in BlueFirst.
  • A round-trip flight from LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale from 1/25-1/28 is normally $199.80 (12K points) in basic, $288.80 (20K points) in economy, $646.80 (47.8K points) in BlueFirst basic, or $736.80 (52.6K points) in BlueFirst.
  • With the code above, a round-trip flight from LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale from 1/25-1/28 is $173.60 (10.2K points) in basic, $250.10 (17K points) in economy, $646.80 (47.8K points) in BlueFirst basic, or $736.80 (52.6K points) in BlueFirst.

For decades, JetBlue didn’t charge any penalty for booking one-way flights. When possible, I always book one-way flights. It allows for the most flexibility if you only need to change one-way and your return flight won’t be canceled if you miss or can’t make your outbound flight.

However, once competitive airlines like JetBlue and Southwest have regressed to the mean, which creates scenarios like the one above, where a one-way ticket is nearly as expensive as a round-trip ticket. It’s worth noting that on the NYC-FLL route for example, there is a minimum stay of 3 days, otherwise the discounted round-trip pricing isn’t available.
